Since the publication of the first public version, there has been great acknowledgment from users, which motivates us to continue development. How does development continue since the app is free? The second version, with the current team, took advantage of some small pieces of code, the name, and icon of the first version, and was completely rewritten in early 2009. In its first version, Ocenaudio was not made publicly available. Listen and edit multiple sections of a file with multi-selection When did the project start? Some researchers have made important contributions to the software, but the continuity of Ocenaudio currently depends on the efforts of the two engineers who are still working on research in this group. Is the same team working on Ocenaudio now? This initiative occurs in the free time of the researchers involved as a hobby and remains so until the present day. The application has been continuously improved since that first release. Over time, features were added until version 2.0 of the software was released in 2011. With the adoption of Macs, software engineers in this group decided to create a small application for the audio manipulations required in their research. In the early 2000s, we had no substitute for CoolEdit on MacOS. CoolEdit was the audio editor we used, running on Windows at the time. Ocenaudio began out of necessity when a speech processing research group started using Apple computers to replace Windows PCs. Can you tell us about how the Ocenaudio project began? I got in touch with the team currently working on Ocenaudio in Brazil to learn about the story behind this app. It handles large files gracefully and navigation within a file is a breeze. There is even an audio screenshot feature that lets you set the image resolution and select which aspects you want to display. The interface is straightforward to use yet the app is packed with features that are there when you need them. Ocenaudio is the fast, easy to use, cross-platform audio editor developed at the Federal University of Santa Catarina in Brazil. Before going for a more complex or paid app, you might want to give it a go, as it may very well be perfect for the job.Ocenaudio editor with waveform and spectral view Ocenaudio comes with all the tools you need for anything from trimming or normalizing an audio file to applying more complex effects and fine-tuning. This means you can extend its functionality almost endlessly, making it suitable for a wide range of projects. If you’ve selected a section and are adjusting something, you’ll be able to hear the difference instantly as it’s playing.Īnd if the included effects aren’t enough, the app offers full support for VST plugins. There are numerous effects you can use, and all modifications can be previewed in real-time. Of course, there’s a lot more you can do other than just simple editing. You can also switch to a spectrogram view or see both the waveform and spectrogram at the same time. From the waveform, you can easily navigate through the file and select the portions of the audio you wish to modify. Opened files can be viewed in the sidebar, with the audio waveform taking up the bulk of the UI. The most commonly-used tools are available in the main toolbar, and you can get everything done with just a few clicks. It’s easy enough to use that you won’t need any instructions whatsoever. If you need to do something like trimming an audio file, normalizing volume, changing gain, or adding fade in/out effects, ocenaudio is the prefect tool for the job. It is remarkably easy to use, and it’s available for macOS, Windows, and Linux. If you’re looking for a free audio editor that has all the necessary features for most use cases, with additional options for advanced users, ocenaudio is a great choice. Audio editors aimed at professionals can be daunting for less experienced users, but lightweight, free alternatives often lack even the basic functionality needed to make trivial modifications to audio files.
